To deliver safety and visibility under dusty conditions the Lexus RX’s backup monitor has a standard rear washer to keep the view clear. A camera washer system costs extra on the Toyota Crown Signia.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the RX has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert with Parking Support Brake, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the Crown Signia Limited, and isn't offered on other Crown Signia models.

Both the RX and the Crown Signia have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Lexus RX is safer than the Toyota Crown Signia:

The RX comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Crown Signia’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the RX 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Toyota covers the Crown Signia. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Crown Signia ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The RX’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Crown Signia’s (6 vs. 5 years).

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the RX has a standard 603-amp battery. The Crown Signia’s 600-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the RX second among midsize premium suvs in their 2024 Initial Quality Study. The Crown Signia isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are better in initial quality than Toyota vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus above average in initial quality. With 18 more problems per 100 vehicles, Toyota is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2025 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Toyota vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus second in overall reliability. Toyota is ranked third.

The RX 350h’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 6 more horsepower (246 vs. 240) than the Crown Signia’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The RX 350’s standard 2.4 turbo 4-cylinder produces 35 more horsepower (275 vs. 240) than the Crown Signia’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The RX 450h+ Luxury’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 64 more horsepower (304 vs. 240) than the Crown Signia’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid. The RX 500h F Sport Performance’s standard 2.4 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid produces 126 more horsepower (366 vs. 240) than the Crown Signia’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

On the EPA test cycle the RX 450h+ running on electricity gets better mileage than the Crown Signia (91 city/75 hwy MPGe vs. 39 city/37 hwy).

The RX 450h+ can travel with zero emissions for 37 miles. The Crown Signia can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Both the RX and Crown Signia have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. The RX 350 has a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The RX 350’s standard fuel tank has 3.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the Crown Signia (17.8 vs. 14.5 gallons).

For better traction, the RX has larger tires than the Crown Signia (235/60R19 vs. 225/55R19).

The RX has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Crown Signia; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

The RX offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Crown Signia’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The RX 450h+ Luxury handles at .83 G’s, while the Crown Signia Limited pulls only .82 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The RX 450h+ Luxury executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Crown Signia Limited (26.8 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 27.3 seconds @ .67 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the RX 500h F Sport Performance’s turning circle is 4.1 feet tighter than the Crown Signia’s (35.4 feet vs. 39.5 feet). The RX’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the Crown Signia’s (38.8 feet vs. 39.5 feet).

For greater off-road capability the RX 350 has a 1.4 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Crown Signia (8.1 vs. 6.7 inches), allowing the RX to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The RX 350h’s minimum ground clearance is 1.5 inches higher than on the Crown Signia (8.2 vs. 6.7 inches).

The RX has .4 inches more front headroom, 2 inches more front hip room, 1.1 inches more front shoulder room, .3 inches more rear legroom, 8.3 inches more rear hip room and 1.5 inches more rear shoulder room than the Crown Signia.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the RX’s rear seats recline. The Crown Signia’s rear seats don’t recline.

The RX has a much larger cargo volume than the Crown Signia with its rear seat up (29.6 vs. 25.8 cubic feet).

Maximum trailer towing in the Toyota Crown Signia is limited to 2700 pounds. The RX offers up to a 3500 lbs. towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Sway Control on the RX uses the Vehicle Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

The RX uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Crown Signia uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Toyota. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 42% lower rating, Toyota is ranked 24th.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the Crown Signia, the RX 450h+ Luxury has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The RX’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Crown Signia does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The RX offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The RX’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Crown Signia’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The RX Luxury/500h F Sport offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the RX offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer cornering lights. The RX also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The RX’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Crown Signia has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The RX Premium/Luxury/F Sport has standard front air conditioned seats and the RX offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The RX 300h/450h+/500h offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet in the cargo area, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The RX Premium+/Luxury/F Sport’s optional Advanced Park can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote Advanced Park will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The RX is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Crown Signia doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
