Compare the2026 Lexus RZVS 2026 Jeep Recon

The Lexus RZ has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Recon doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

The RZ has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Recon doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Both the RZ and Recon have rear cross-traffic warning, but the RZ Premium/Luxury/F Sport has Parking Support Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Recon’s Rear Cross Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the RZ and the Recon have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The RZ comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Recon’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the RZ 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Jeep covers the Recon. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Recon ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The RZ’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Recon’s (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are better in initial quality than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 20 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is ranked 11th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2025 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the statistics that show that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lexus first in reliability, above the industry average. With 135 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is ranked 33rd.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ March 2026 Auto Issue reports that Lexus vehicles are more reliable than Jeep vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Lexus third in overall reliability. Jeep is ranked 24th.

The RZ can travel longer on a full charge than the Recon on a full charge:

The RZ’s standard 235/60R18 front and 255/55R18 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 60 series front and 55 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Recon’s standard 70 series tires. The RZ’s optional 235/50R20 front and 255/45R20 rear tires have a lower 50 series front and 45 series rear profile than the Recon’s 70 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the RZ offers optional 20-inch wheels. The Recon’s largest wheels are only 18-inches.

For better maneuverability, the RZ’s turning circle is 3.7 feet tighter than the Recon’s (36.8 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

The Lexus RZ may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1450 to 1800 pounds less than the Jeep Recon.

The RZ is 4.1 inches shorter than the Recon, making the RZ easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The RZ is 9.4 inches shorter in height than the Recon, making the RZ much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The front grille of the RZ uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Recon doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The RZ uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Recon doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the RZ’s rear seats recline. The Recon’s rear seats don’t recline.

The front step up height for the RZ is 4.4 inches lower than the Recon (18” vs. 22.4”). The RZ’s rear step up height is 4.3 inches lower than the Recon’s (18.1” vs. 22.4”).

The RZ has a much larger cargo volume than the Recon with its rear seat up (34.1 vs. 30.3 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the RZ easier. The RZ’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 29.8 inches, while the Recon’s liftover is 35.1 inches.

The RZ’s liftgate lifts up in one piece, completely out of the way of loading and unloading, while sheltering the cargo loading area. The Recon’s swing out door blocks loading from the driver’s side.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the RZ Premium/Luxury/F Sport’s liftgate can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Recon doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its cargo door, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Lexus service is better than Jeep. J.D. Power ranks Lexus second in service department satisfaction. With a 38% lower rating, Jeep is ranked 21st.

The RZ offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Recon doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The RZ offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Recon doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The RZ’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Recon has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

Both the Lexus RZ and Jeep Recon offer exterior mirrors that can be folded to provide convenience. The RZ offers available power folding mirrors, which allow for easy, one-touch folding or unfolding at the driver’s discretion. This provides added convenience when maneuvering or parking, as well as when walking past the parked vehicle. In comparison, the Recon’s foldable mirrors are manual, requiring the driver to get out and physically fold them once parked and unfold them before getting in.

The RZ is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Recon doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
